Teletherapy
What is Teletherapy?
Seeing a therapist can be of great help to many people, yet they can be hesitant to seek out this help for a variety of reasons. For some, it's difficult to admit that they need help in the first place. For others, there may be barriers such as cost, insurance, or ability to travel. Teletherapy is one way to make mental health care more accessible.
What is it?
Teletherapy is just like any other form of therapy, but it takes place with the help of technology, instead of face-to-face. It can incorporate one or all of the following: phone calls, video calls, text messaging, email. It can be an extension of in-person therapy or as a replacement.
What does it look like?
A teletherapist can work with you in a variety of ways. You may wish to have monthly in-person meetings, followed-up with weekly teletherapy sessions. Or, you may only see your teletherapist online and never in-person. It is up to you and your therapist how you want to conduct your sessions together.
What are the benefits?
Teletherapy is a great benefit for those with mobility issues, health concerns, or are otherwise unable to leave their home. It's also ideal for those with busy schedules who do not have time to commute to the therapist's office every week. It's also a great way to start therapy if you are nervous.
